We want to help develop new Diesel Mechanics and we don’t want the cost of education to get in the way. Lakeside offers a scholarship program for this reason. Lakeside will cover up to 100% of school tuition for technicians enrolled in an accredited Diesel Power program. The Lakeside program even allows for our mechanics in school to earn while they learn. Lakeside offers flexible work schedules to allow mechanics to get real world training and hands-on experience while getting a head start on earning a paycheck. With the Lakeside Scholarship Program you’ll not only work alongside the best in the industry, but you’ll also earn your degree, earn great money and have no school loan debt to pay off in the end.
Company Paid Training
Due to rapid technology advancements and innovative truck engineering, the need for ongoing training for Lakeside diesel technicians is essential. Our techs are trained by the best in the industry in order to stay on top of their game. Lakeside customers have a high level of confidence when they bring their trucks to any of our shops because they know we have truck OEM, engine manufacturer and ASE certified experts working on their vehicles. We are committed to the ongoing development of every diesel technician regardless of years of experience or skill level. Being well trained by the best in the industry is what you’ll get as an employee of Lakeside. When it comes to training, there is no cost to our technician, Lakeside covers 100% of the training costs. To maintain your skills, we offer onsite factory training, apprentice programs, self-study courses and ASE certification programs and offer a Tuition Reimbursement Program to qualifying candidates.
Tool Set Program
Lakeside understands the cost and stress associated with building a tool set when starting out in the field. With the Tool Set Program, Lakeside provides a complete tool set. The set includes more than 40 essential tools and a rolling toolbox. This allows the diesel technician to get a start on their work without a new career with basic tools without stress. The starting technician can build off this set.
CDL Assistance
We’ve got you covered when it comes to your CDL. Obtaining and maintaining your CDL is critical in your line of work, and we want to make it easy for our technicians. Lakeside covers the cost of a technician CDL license – whether you are getting it for the first time or if it’s a renewal. To ensure your CDL license doesn’t expire, we have a system to remind our technicians when it’s time for renewal. Lakeside has partnerships with truck driving instructors to help our technicians learn how to drive trucks properly in order to obtain a CDL and safely operate commercial trucks as diesel technicians. Lakeside covers 100% of the training cost.
Apprentice Program
Learning continues outside the classroom as a Diesel Technician. Throughout a technician’s career training is vital to stay on top of the latest industry advancements. For those diesel technicians starting out, Lakeside offers an apprenticeship program. The program includes a 5-modules, from truck fundamentals and basic electrical to engine diagnostics, programming, and repair. In this program, each technician has a mentor to assist them on the floor. ASE certifications are obtained and at the end of the program, the technician has the opportunity to become International Master Certified and International Diamond Certified – two highly regarded industry certifications. All training and testing costs are covered 100% by Lakeside.
Tool Assistance Program
New to the trade? We can help you build your arsenal of tools with our Tool Assistance Program. Having quality tools in your tool box is critical to your success. Lakeside offers starting technicians a tool loan program that provides interest free loan assistance towards the purchase of new tools.

As an experienced Diesel Technician, you will work independently, performing both major and minor repairs. Diagnosing all-makes commercial trucks and buses and completing maintenance work consistent with Lakeside best practices and industry standards. As an expert, you are considered a lead technician and may serve as mentor for developing diesel technicians at the dealership.

Our techs are the most well-respected experts in the industry when it comes to diesel equipment and that’s what sets us apart. As a diesel mechanic/technician at Lakeside, you’ll never have to worry about getting bored. The variety of equipment we work on is extensive. It’s never the same day twice.

- Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose vehicle problems based on customer complaints/inspection and examine to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
- Troubleshoot and repair of suspension, drive line, steering components, brake system – air and hydraulic, engine repair and electrical
- Install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fan hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts
- Document all work performed and recommended repair orders
- Conduct road test to ensure vehical as needed
- Adherence to all company and industry safety standards
- Ability to organize the work presented and plan for the highest efficiency and productivity in the performance of all job functions
- Continual training and development in support of individual career and company goals
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Vacational or technical certification on vehical repairs
- 5+ years of experience working with diesel engines and heavy-duty trucks
- Training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications
- Ability to work with diagnostics computer for troubleshooting and repairs
- Must have your own tool set to perform assigned responsibilities
- Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
